4 Ways You Can Embrace Self Care
I’m not the first one to say this, but I’m going to repeat it for everyone. Self-Care is essential to your well-being! The saying that always resonated with me was “you can’t pour from an empty glass.” We give so much to those around us: our family, our kids, our friends, our pets, our jobs, etc. It’s very easy to wear ourselves thin and lose sight of our own wellness. A special message to parents or very busy childless adults, while errands are a nice break by yourself, they are not fulfilling. So for the purposes of my argument for self-care, errands don’t count! Seeing as how organizing is a form of self-care, this topic feels particularly close to my heart. So here are my top tips to help you find the time and activities to take care of #1.
Organizing is a form of self-care. I know I’m biased, but I have the science to back it up. I even wrote an entire blog post about it. Read The Benefits of Decluttering. Studies have proven that clutter greatly affects our mental and emotional well being. By simplifying your space, you will experience less guilt, less stress, increased productivity, better sleep, and a healthier lifestyle. You are lifting the burden that comes with extra decision making and daily tidying. As always, I’m here to help with that!
At the beginning of every month, sit down with your calendar and schedule any appointments, home maintenance, car maintenance, and fun activities you have coming up. Most importantly, schedule self care into your time. There are many activities you can plan out ahead of time that range from luxurious to at home DIY including:
Spa Weekend
Hair Appointment
Yoga Classes
Girls Wine Night
Pedicure
Every Sunday Face Masks and at-home manicures
Every Wednesday time to yourself at a coffee shop
Weekly Bible Study
30 Minutes of quiet reading before bed
Drink your morning tea on the patio every morning and enjoy the fresh air
I could go on and on about things that sound like a warm hug to the heart, but the point is that if you put it on the calendar you are much more likely to take that time for yourself.
Think back to when we were kids… we were in so many activities! Think about all the sports teams you were on, instruments you played, or dance recitals you performed. It was so exciting and fulfilling to learn new skills and watch yourself improve over time! Why do we stop that when we’re adults? It’s time to embrace things with childlike enthusiasm! It doesn’t matter if you watch a YouTube video to learn how to bake a beautiful cake or you could do what I’ve been doing and take roller-skating lessons at the local skating rink, but pick up a new hobby and embrace it! It’s incredible the energy and excitement it will inject in your life, and you may even find your people with the same interests.
You deserve the nice things. This does not mean that you need to buy everything designer (unless you’re into that and your budget allows it). What I mean by this is that it is better to invest in quality instead of quantity. Take care of your face with quality skincare. There are so many good options with great ingredients that won’t break the bank. Instead of buying 10 shirts from Amazon, buy 2 from a brand that will last you longer. Occasionally, visit a local farmer’s market and buy fresh ingredients for your weekly groceries. Life has so many little luxuries that can fit any budget if you take the time to treat yourself.
So, take time for yourself. Engage in things you love that fill your heart with joy. You deserve it and your loved ones deserve it!
