5 Things to Declutter This Fall
Fall is my favorite time to declutter! We've been outside all spring and summer, and now that the weather is getting cooler (like how in Texas we've dipped below 99) we're starting to move indoors more and get cozy. While we're switching out our decor for more pumpkins and turning on those fireplaces (again, for those NOT in Texas) let's take just a little bit of time to get rid of the excess.
As the summer months come to an end, go through your closet and really assess what you wore and what you didn’t while it is still fresh in your mind. Maybe those shorts didn’t fit just right or that top’s color wasn’t for you. Whatever the reason, it’s time to let go of the things you didn’t love.
When you’re ready to put out all the plaids and cute pumpkins, go through all of your decor for the season. Let go of anything you’re not particularly loving this year. Every few years I change up my color scheme a bit, so I let go of the old instead of just piling on more and more stuff in my bins.
Crisp air and colder weather means delicious baked goods. I don’t make the rules, I just eat them! Before you get elbow deep into sweat and savory goodness, do I full kitchen clean out. If your drawers are overflowing or your pans are toppling over, it’s time to purge. Then, you’ll be ready for the baking to commence!
Now that you’ve cleared out the unwanted summer clothes as you transition to your fall wardrobe, it’s time to declutter that too. I know it’s exciting to start buying new sweaters and cute boots, but before you add anything to your closet, really take note of what you have and what you need. Our tastes change, styles change, our sizes change, and sometimes our locations and weather changes. Take all of that into account as you look through each piece of your fall clothing and decide if it stays or goes.
Every season, it’s a good idea to go through these items and check expiration dates. Makeup and self care items might expire quicker than you expected. Do a quick clean out and start the new season fresh! I've compiled a guide to help you determine if you've been holding on to these items too long.
Now that you've cleared out the extra stuff, kick back with some cozy throws, grab a cup of hot (or iced) pumpkin latte, and start the season off fresh!
